The outside shell of the dragon egg is a firm foam like material that has some indentations to make it look like a real egg. The dragon is quite small as I thought it would be a bit bigger and that the head would be a bit more firm. It is cute and I will use it when I see kids for therapy. But thank goodness I bought it from Doll TV when it was cheaper. It has gone up almost 4 dollars after I bought it. Also, Doll TV has sent me a few of my Folkmanis puppets and they have been wonderful.
